About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the Role
The Men's Wellbeing Worker works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of primary health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander men residing in Cape York. The position is full time and permanent.

Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community. There is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be male to ensure cultural protocols and customs are being met.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience as a social and community worker.
  • Well-developed written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to liaise with service providers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the case management process and the ability to undertake assessments, develop, monitor and review case plans.
  • Ability to maintain client data and records including preparation of reports.
  • Understanding of the impact of social and emotional wellbeing on an individual's health and wellbeing.
  • Experience with providing individual support.
  • Experience with developing, implementing and reviewing education and awareness activities and programs based on client group needs.
  • Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Sector and/or remote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

Mandatory

  • Certificate IV in Community Services, Certificate IV in Indigenous Mental Health (Suicide Prevention), or Certificate IV in Mental Health
  • Current Queensland Driver's License
  • Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
  • AFP National Police Check or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
