About QCIF’s Skills Development

As data science and advanced digital tools rapidly becomes essential in research projects and disciplines, QCIF Skills Development supports researchers of all levels of experience to take advantage of digital research infrastructure capabilities across software tools, methods and computing.

We provide detailed researcher guidance and upskilling through a network of on-site data science and research computing specialists, an extensive program of short practical training seminars, and by fostering communities of practitioners.

QCIF Skills Development provides training, coaching, and other support activities to researchers, students, and professional staff at our Member universities.

About the Role

The Administrative Assistant – Skills Development Support will provide administrative and customer service support to the QCIF Skills Development department. This role will primarily focus on handling correspondence with individuals who have signed up for QCIF training courses, managing general enquiries, and ensuring smooth communication between participants and the QCIF training team. This role will also support project administration by coordinating meetings, recording minutes, and assisting with related tasks as required.

Key responsibilities

Training Course Support

  • Send confirmation emails, reminders, and follow-ups to individuals registered for QCIF training courses.
  • Update training catalogues and websites in accordance with established user procedures
  • Maintain and update participant lists and training records.
  • Assist with generating and distributing post-training feedback surveys.

Correspondence and Communication

  • Respond to email and phone enquiries related to QCIF training courses and projects in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide basic information regarding course content, schedules, and registration procedures.
  • Escalate complex enquiries to the Skills Development team as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate records of all correspondence and participant interactions.
  • Assist in preparing training materials and documentation as required.
  • Support general administrative tasks within the Skills Development department.

About you

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in an administrative or customer service role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and email management.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Experience with learning management systems or event registration platforms.
  • Familiarity with the research and training environment.
  • Prior experience in a university or research organization setting.

Organisational Relationships

The Skills Development Casual Trainers are members of QCIF’s Skills Development team and report to the Skills Development Coordinator.

Location

The role will work from the QCIF offices or at one of our Member universities, with a Brisbane location preferred. Flexible working arrangements may be available.
