Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Corporate & Commercial Lawyer (4-8 years PQE) to join a leading Sydney-based University.

LOCATION:
Sydney – south of the Harbour and easily accessible by public transport.

THE ROLE:

• 3 to 6 months interim role with potential for permanency
• Start Date: ASAP
• A varied Corporate & Commercial role – providing high-quality legal advice on contracts, negotiations, compliance, intellectual property, and dispute management.
• Prior experience in the education sector is not required, but broad corporate or commercial experience, combined with intellectual property or technology law experience, is essential.
• Be a proactive partner to various departments, offering practical legal advice, mitigating risks, and supporting key decisions across the institution.
• Help build frameworks and processes that allow stakeholders to manage risks and legal matters autonomously.

ABOUT YOU:

• You bring a positive attitude, energy, and a good sense of humour.
• You have a current Australian Practicing Certificate and at least 4 years of post-qualification experience, including in-house or reputable firm exposure.
• A strong background in corporate or commercial law is essential, with any experience in IP or technology law highly valued.
• You are an excellent legal advisor – not only technically proficient but also focused on delivering practical, effective solutions.
• You are skilled in influencing, managing, and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, both within the University and externally.
• You thrive in a dynamic environment, making well-informed decisions, managing priorities, and offering concise and effective legal advice.
• Adaptable and solution-focused, with the ability to handle ambiguity and change.
• You are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining clear communication and teamwork.
• Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to explain legal concepts clearly to stakeholders.
• A proactive, innovative approach to legal practice and a readiness to embrace emerging technologies to improve legal operations.
