About the role:
We are looking for someone committed with a great attitude to take on the permanent full-time role of General Hand Arborist to support the maintenance, care and preservation of trees in public spaces, such as parks, streetscapes, and community areas. The role involves tree pruning/maintenance, tree removal and general tree health care, following Australian Standards for tree pruning and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. In addition, this position will operate plant such as chainsaws, chippers and elevated work platforms and follow best practice for tree health and public safety.
The City of Swan is committed to accommodating flexibility within the workplace, where possible. Although this position is advertised as full-time, submissions from applicants that have a preference for part-time hours are invited and will be considered in this recruitment process. Part-time positions would be offered on full-day arrangement on a reduced roster of 1-4 days per week as mutually agreed.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Comply with relevant Occupational Safety and Health legislation and complete all work in a safe and efficient manner having regard to own safety, the public’s safety and that of other workers.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and be community minded with a willingness to improve the quality of life for our community
- Operate and maintain all associated plant in accordance to City Policy and Procedures
- Carry out a variety of tasks as associated with maintenance and construction of Parks Operations
- Assist, as required, in the maintenance of other areas within the City

The successful candidate will have the following:
- MR class motor vehicle license
- Chainsaw Certification and experience in the safe use of chainsaws and trailer mounted wood-chippers
- Experience in parks and garden maintenance and/or construction
- Good working knowledge of tree felling and tree pruning techniques
- Safety Awareness Training Certificate (White Card)
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate
- Good working knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and practices

The salary for this position will be from $73,010.03 - $73,927.49 per annum (includes loading), depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
