The Opportunity
The EL1 Procurement and Risk Manager vacancy is a newly created role established to build additional capability and uplift knowledge regarding procurement and risk management at the National Museum. You’ll be focused on providing training and guidance to a variety of different types of staff, such as creatives, curators, historians, academics, facilities staff and corporate team members.
You’ll join a high performing team of 10 staff in the Legal, Executive and Governance Support business unit and will report to an EL2 that has extensive corporate knowledge, having been with the Museum for the last 15 years. The team generally has the flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per week.
This is an opportunity to advise on unique procurement processes, such as Museum exhibitions and capital works projects, where you can see the tangible and immediate outcomes of your advice. You’ll be empowered to work independently and essentially build your own practice and reputation in the Museum as a trusted advisor to staff that will appreciate your knowledge and guidance.
If you are currently a permanent APS staff member, you can be engaged on a permanent s26 transfer. Otherwise, you can be engaged on a 12-month non-ongoing contract with view to permanency.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide high-quality advice to staff on all aspects of procurement and risk management.
- Help build internal capability via appropriate training and guidance.
- Maintain procurement templates and information, ensuring they are up to date and compliant with government requirements.
- Engage in procurement planning activities across the organisation and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain the Museum's risk management and fraud framework, ensuring alignment with the Commonwealth Risk Management Policy and best practice, including facilitating the Museum’s internal risk management committee.
- Manage the Museum’s relationship with Comcover including analysing risk areas to ensure adequate coverage.
- Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans and deliver business continuity exercises and simulati
- Manage the internal audit service provider and delivery of the internal audit program, including monitoring progress against recommendations and reporting to the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.
The Ideal Person
The successful candidate will have a background in providing high level procurement, probity and risk management advice in a Commonwealth Government setting. You’ll have experience training and educating staff and building their capability in Commonwealth procurement and risk management practices.
What is crucial is being able to provide this advice to a variety of different staff with different levels of seniority, style, personality, knowledge and capability. It’s essential that you can adapt your approach depending on who your audience is. You’ll have an outgoing personality, high EQ and be comfortable reaching out to people proactively to provide guidance.
You’ll have the following core experience:
- Experience and detailed understanding of the Commonwealth procurement framework
- Expertise in risk management, particularly in the Commonwealth sector
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide timely, practical and accurate advice with minimal supervision
To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and be willing to undergo a police check.
Salary / Rate
- $118k - $127k + 15.4% super (or salary match).
