Salary Range: $38.31 - $40.18 per hour pending experience

About the role

St Catherine's Catholic College, The Whitsundays is seeking an experienced and dedicated School Officer - Administration to provide generalist administration and student reception support. This role is a Permanent, Term Time position completing 27.5 hours a week, commencing in Term 2, 2025.

The Careers School Officer will be required to have a detailed knowledge of career education and pathways. The position will work collaboratively with the College Leadership Team and other key staff to ensure the career development of the students in Years 7-12. The position will develop up-to-date information on career pathway plans and focus on embedding career experiences across the Loyola campus.

The Careers School Officer assists students by linking career and subject choices to learning with the provision of support, advice, information and resources to assist in planning.

Key Accountabilities

Role responsibilities include:

• Assist students to source information, make decisions and take action to build appropriate career pathways:
✓ Holding individual meetings with students, parents and other staff to discuss apprenticeship/career interests, required subject selections and relevant pathways
✓ Providing non-ATAR eligible students with pathways into school-based traineeships/apprenticeships
✓ Providing students with information relevant to their chosen field and ensuring, alongside teachers and Head of Curriculum that students are in the appropriate subject selection for their Year 12 QCE.
• Develop existing networks and relationships between employers, VET and tertiary institutions:
✓ Consulting local and regional (boarding school) workplaces/employees
✓ Coordinating Year 10 and 12 students with work placement opportunities
✓ Sourcing workplaces appropriate to the needs of the student's interests and values of the College, negotiating with employees and the Deputy of Curriculum, and monitoring students' progress during their one-week placement.
• Explore and develop links with industry and other bodies
• Facilitate and support career support structures for students:
✓ Assisting students in completing Blue Card applications, resumes and QTAC applications
✓ Setting up students in Years 10 and 12 with USI numbers
✓ Supervising students at JCU camps and Career Exhibitions.
• Support the College's careers program and curriculum in line with the College's strategic vision and goals:
✓ Organising the Careers Networking Evening.
• Support students’ transition from school to the next phase of life.
• Coordinate and provide the facilities, resources and materials required for the delivery of careers programs
✓ Organising the delivery of a White Card Construction course, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and First Aid Courses
✓ Distributing career information via student bulletin board and school newsletter
✓ Undertaking mock interviews with students
✓ Liaising with Pastoral Leaders, Heads of Department, Deputies, and VET Project Officers for Completion and submission of relevant risk assessments.

About You

Experience

  • Previous experience displaying professional and effective interpersonal, communication and liaison skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability in establishing links to the workplace via networking
  • Proven ability to embrace and contribute to new approaches when working in a changing environment.

Knowledge

  • Ability to develop and manage the College’s career experiences and pathway plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the tertiary and VET sectors.

Skills

  • Supports productive relationships with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to organise work, manage own time to meet deadlines and be adaptable in response to changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a range of stakeholders including students, staff and parents
  • High level of attention to detail and recognition of the importance of accuracy in all aspects of the work
  • Ability to show initiative, flexibility, solve problems and contribute to process improvement in a complex environment.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card or eligibility to obtain same - the successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant industry experience in the education sector.

Some employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments during the selection process. Depending on the nature of the position, it may be necessary for successful applicants to be immunised against certain preventable diseases to minimise the risk of transmission.
