The Nathan River mine site is located 50km inland from the Gulf of Carpentaria and approximately 760km from Darwin, we are the proud owner and operator of the Roper Bar Iron Ore Mine. We take pride of our in-house mine, marine and trans-shipment division, we manage a fleet of mine and marine assets dedicated to our operations.
We are seeking the following positions:
- Lead Mechanical Fitter
FIFO Roster Ex Darwin is 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off.
As the Lead Mechanical Fitter – you will play a key leadership role in overseeing workshop operations, managing a small team of skilled tradespeople, and ensuring high-quality work is delivered efficiently. You will be responsible for job scheduling, quality control, team development, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of mechanical fitters, apprentices, and trades assistants.
- Oversee workshop operations, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently and to high standards.
- Allocate work, schedule tasks, and monitor job progress.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on assistance in all Heavy road train mechanical needs.
- Conduct quality control checks and ensure adherence to engineering specifications.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and management regarding project timelines and requirements.
- Maintain stock levels, order materials, and manage workshop inventory.
- Implement and enforce workplace safety procedures and compliance.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members to enhance their technical skills.
Desirable for this position:
- Trade Qualification – Truck Mechanic/Diesel Fitter
- MC and forklift licence (desirable)
- Auto Electrician experience/qualifications (desirable)
- High level knowledge and experience in the repair of road trains and hydraulic’s
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to keep up to date with modern practices relevant to fleet servicing and repairs.
- Well-developed technical, diagnostic and analytical skills relevant to mechanical servicing
- Basic computer literacy skills, including use of Outlook and Word
- Good time management and prioritisation
- High attention to detail
- Have an excellent work ethic.

- Be proactive and safety conscious person who can maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Ability to undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencing employment.
