The position of Livestock Area Manager - Broiler is to ensure the efficient and effective operation of company and contract broiler farms to supply the needs of the processing plant(s). The operation of the broiler farms involves receival of day olds, grow out, pick up and cleanout, maintenance of farm and shed equipment, meeting customer quality requirements and meeting legislative and regulatory requirements related to the operation of broiler farms.
Key responsibilities: (but not limited to):
- Prompt and correct decisions regarding the Broiler farming operation are made as and when required, in conjunction with the Broiler Farmer / Farm Manager.
- Work within Baiada guidelines.
- Liaise with Farmer / Farm Manager on matters affecting bird health, growth and quality Ensure all livestock are cared for with adequate feed, water, temperature and health monitoring to attain maximum potential.
- Ensure that all appropriate steps are taken to implement WHS policy, procedures and legislative requirements.
Monitor WHS performance within area of responsibility. - Visibly show commitment to WHS through participation in formal and informal discussions, workplace visits and hazard inspections.
- Ensure that the National Environmental Policy is complied with.
- The position has a practical understanding of environmental regulations and law as it relates to the operation and management of a broiler farm and the disposal of associated effluent and wastes.
- The requirements of the Baiada MOS, Quality System, quarantine and EMS requirements. applicable to the Broiler Farm are known, understood and implemented by fully trained and competent staff.
- The Livestock Area Manager is readily accessible and promptly responds to requests on matters related to Broiler Livestock. The Livestock Area Manager promptly informs all necessary personnel about matters occurring on the farm that may have an impact on other areas of broiler production, or the company in general.
- The position identifies areas for improvement, participates in problem solving teams, and coordinates problem solving teams in partnership with the Broiler Livestock Manager.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Previous experience in livestock management.
- Current driver’s license (company car where applicable)
- Extensive experience in animal husbandry, particularly with livestock poultry with a sound commitment to the welfare of the stock.
- Excellent leadership skills including conflict resolution and problem solving.
- A knowledge of Quality Systems, WHSE procedures and good understanding of how day to day activities could impact on the Animal Welfare, Biosecurity and Environment
- Experience in the poultry industry, specifically broiler farming
- Conscientious, able to see tasks through to completion
- Desire to take ownership and responsibility
- A genuine concern for stock welfare
- Good communication skills
