Why this role matters
This Research Officer (RO) role will play a key role in supporting research projects as part of the multidisciplinary Research Support team, serving as the primary point of contact for researchers across Schools, Centres and Institutes. The RO role provides essential assistance to allocated Schools and Centres in managing pre-and post-award grant activities while contributing to complex projects, including funding support, researcher training and development, and collaboration initiatives.
At the Faculty level, the RO will participate in initiatives such as event support, grant peer review, grant outcome analysis and resource development. The RO supports one of the Faculty’s five Research Themes and works on ad hoc projects addressing emerging needs of the Schools and Centres. The position supports communications efforts including newsletter and website while offering opportunities to apply diverse skills and develop innovative projects driving research excellence.
Key skills required:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Highly advanced interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
High proficiency of computer literacy, working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office 365 suite including Teams, OneDrive, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and with using UNSW’s enterprise systems.Full details can be found in the position description.
