The Opportunity
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will actively engage with clients, delivering evidence-based psychological interventions and coordinating care. As the first point of contact for young people accessing the Youth Enhanced Service (YES), you will play a key role in building strong, positive connections with a diverse range of clients presenting with moderate to complex needs and their families and support networks.
We’re looking for experienced clinicians who excel at assessing young people’s needs, including conducting complex risk assessments and implementing plans to mitigate identified risks. You will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with professionals from various backgrounds to provide holistic and coordinated care. You’ll be well-supported by a highly skilled team and have access to regular internal and external supervision. Participation in clinical supervision is essential, and you will also contribute to case discussions with the clinical care team, ensuring comprehensive and effective care for clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide evidence-based clinical and psychological interventions to support young people with diverse needs.
- Engage with young people in a developmentally appropriate, youth-friendly manner.
- Conduct bio-psycho-social and risk assessments, including suicide and violence risk, developing action plans and providing follow-up support, intervention, and referrals as needed.
- Deliver assessments, case planning, therapeutic interventions, and care coordination for young people and their families.
- Develop and co-facilitate psychoeducational, psychosocial, and therapeutic group programs.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Nursing. Accredited mental health practitioners, including registered Mental Health Social Workers (MHSW), AHPRA-registered professionals (such as psychologists, nurses, etc.), or equivalent qualifications, with skills, training, and experience that meet or exceed the requirements outlined within the Australian Counselling Association Scope of Practice Guidelines, at a minimum Level.
- Preferably experience as a Mental Health Clinician, working with people aged between 12 to 25 years of age.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with young people, their families and significant others.
- Skills in delivery of therapeutic psychological interventions and care coordination with young people and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to maximise service coordination and capacity building with community agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and follow established processes that focus on early intervention, engagement, responsiveness and recovery of young people.
- Demonstrated experience or, at a minimum, a strong commitment to working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as with culturally and linguistically diverse clients, communities, staff, and Aboriginal-controlled organisations.
Other Requirements
- Successful applicants must hold a ‘C’ class Open driver's licence, a valid working with Children Check (South Australia) and be eligible to apply for a Licensed Care Suitability Check issued by the QLD Department of Child Safety, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs.
