About the Role
Join our Engineering Services team at Sydney Water, where your expertise will ensure the safe and efficient operation of water, recycled water, wastewater, and stormwater networks. Reporting to the Engineering Services Leader, the Operational Planner is responsible for reviewing designs, planning network operations, and managing the risks associated with customer safety and asset management. You will play a key role in ensuring that new and renewed assets are maintainable and operable while minimising risks.
Our team is dedicated to protecting Sydney Water’s assets, customers, and the environment while meeting regulatory, customer, and shareholder expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review designs of new network assets to ensure they are maintainable and operable.
- Provide subject matter expertise in response to network inquiries.
- Offer expert input into asset planning, renewals, creation processes, policies, and strategies.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for major infrastructure programs, collaborating with Program Coordinators and both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including Operating Licenses, Customer Contracts, EPA standards, and Department of Health guidelines.
- Support the development of network operational plans to mitigate safety, customer, system, and environmental risks.
About you
We are looking for a dynamic individual with a background in engineering or water construction, someone who is eager to grow professionally while managing complex stakeholder relationships.
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, a Diploma in Water Industry Operations, or equivalent experience in the operation and maintenance of network assets.
- A current driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle, with flexibility to travel to various Sydney Water sites as needed.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Innovative, motivated, and confident, with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
- In-depth knowledge of how water, recycled water, wastewater, and stormwater networks operate to meet customer and stakeholder needs.
- Proven experience in developing operational plans to manage safety, customer service, system functionality, and environmental risks.
- Familiarity with quality management systems relevant to water, recycled water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
