Where you'll be working
This role is based at Royal North Shore Community Health Centre, St Leonards.

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Counsellor is to provide evidence based assessment, information and treatment for clients who attend all of the D&A centres (Hornsby, St Leonards, Ryde or Northern Beaches).

This role will involve a stepped care approach with brief interventions, comprehensive assessment, initiating and managing planned treatment options, consultation and referral to other agencies.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Recognised qualifications suitable for a mental health professional, such as Psychologist or Counsellor, with current registration through the relevant Professional Board of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or eligibility for Membership for Social Workers with the AASW. Hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence.
  2. Demonstrated experience and clinical knowledge in the assessment and treatment of people with drug and alcohol problems, and/or people with co-morbid substance use disorders and mental health problems using a range of modalities eg. CBT, DBT, Schema.
  3. Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and experience in health promotion, quality projects and research.
