Position overview

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides corporate IT services to ANU staff, students and visitors in support if achieving excellence in research, teaching and public policy. These services include network, communications, computing platforms, data storage, desktop and mobile access, enterprise systems, student learning environments and IT security. The work of ITS is coordinated with services provided within and by University colleges and other service Divisions to form cohesive, University-wide services infrastructure.

The Purchasing Officer plays a key role within our Purchasing Team, overseeing the coordination of software and hardware asset procurement. We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic team player who can quickly adapt, take initiative, and thrives on delivering quality work. A strong sense of job satisfaction, a positive attitude, and a passion for client interaction are essential for success in this role. The Person

  • Procurement Knowledge – Understanding of purchasing processes for IT hardware and software.
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to review orders, contracts, and invoices for accuracy.
  • Organisational Skills – Efficiently manage multiple procurement requests and deadlines.
  • Communication Skills – Strong verbal and written communication for liaising with vendors and internal teams.
  • Customer Service Orientation – Ability to interact professionally with clients and provide excellent service.
  • Problem-Solving Ability – Quickly resolve procurement-related issues and ensure smooth purchasing operations.
  • Team Player – Collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Initiative & Adaptability – Proactive approach with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Negotiation Skills – Ability to secure competitive pricing and favourable contract terms.
  • Technical Proficiency – Familiarity with purchasing systems, spreadsheets, and IT asset management tools.
