An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior HR Officer to join the Corporate Services Department of Forbes Shire Council.

Reporting directly to the Manager People and Strategy, the aim on this position is to partner with the business to provide advice, guidance and support on all people related activities with the HR environment whilst ensuring best practice approaches to employee management.

Working both independently and as part of the People and Strategy Team, you will work to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes on an exciting range of projects including Organisational Development projects and Leadership initiatives and strategies.

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in professional human relations/business/Organisational Development or related qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an HRM role and demonstrates strong potential for senior HRM role.
  • Class C (Standard) Driver's License.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the legislative environment in which Council operates.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation training
  • Coaching certification and ability to drive performance

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years Human Resources experience in a generalist role;
  • Must be able to navigate complex environments with skill, respect, rapport and productive working relationships
  • Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of broad HR and Organisational Development functions including employment legislation, employee /industrial relations, award interpretation, change management, talent management, remuneration and benefits, recruitment and selection, policy development, EEO and workers compensation;
  • Demonstrated experience in project management including inception to delivery with demonstrable outcomes;
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse audience in both written and verbal forms;
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills combined with the ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate positive outcomes;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated performance working with staff and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and establish credibility as a business partner;
  • Ability to plan, develop, review and implement HR and organisational policies and procedures.

Forbes Shire Council's selection process stages are outlined below:

  • Shortlisting - The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
  • Interview - You will be given at least 2-days' notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
  • Reference checks and other checks - Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
  • Pre-employment Functional Assessment - The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and Alcohol Testing and a hearing screen
  • Notification of the result - The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once the offer of employment has been accepted, and Council has been formally notified of the acceptance.
