About This Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an emerging or mid-career research-focused neuroscientist (Level C, or Assistant Professor equivalent internationally) working in the field of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), who seeks to develop new treatments and to improve health outcomes for patients.

The appointee will hold the Ross Maclean Fellowship, established in 2004 through the generous benefaction of the Maclean family.

The successful applicant will receive support to build their research group. The incumbent will be expected to undertake some community engagement activities alongside their academic pursuits.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Establish a research program in MND, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Teaching: Where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken, achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and improve or innovate where appropriate.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You
  • Completion of a PhD in the discipline area.
  • An established profile in research in the discipline area.
  • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences.
  • A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
  • A solid record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check, and mandatory immunisations.
