About our client:
Our client is proudly Australia's leading steel manufacturing and distribution company committed to delivering excellence and efficiency in their operations. They are looking for an experienced Transport Supervisor to join their team in Newcastle.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing transportation operations, optimizing routes, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
About the role:
The Transport Supervisor oversees the scheduled collections & deliveries for the Recycling internal and contractor fleet. The Transport Supervisor is responsible for the NSW Allocators and company drivers.
The Transport Supervisor communicates with all parties in the Recycling supply chain and responds to all requests, ensuring the Customer needs (internal & external) are met, and that safety is not compromised while always maintaining efficiencies and professionalism.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Participate in safety audits & safety observations.
- Understands, complies with, and actively participates in training to ensure compliance with safety & environment procedures/policies, guidelines and relevant WHSE/RMS legislation and directions.
- Ensures systems are followed.
- Ensure vehicles & equipment are maintained and roadworthy.
- Lead investigations in all significant transport related safety incidents and develop suitable corrective actions.
- Negotiate freight rates.
- Complete monthly reports.
- Ensure pre-start checks are being completed.
- Work with allocations team to assist with scheduling requirements.
- Ensure training needs of the transport team
Experience, Qualifications and Competency Requirements:
- Over 5 years in transport, heavy manufacturing or mining
- Proficient (intermediate or advanced level) in Microsoft Office Suite
- Extensive experience in leading safety within a structured Safety Management System
- Ability to drive change and lead from the front
- Ability to manage people
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- HR license desirable
- 5+ years in planning, scheduling, or maintenance related experience
