The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Drafting & Design Manager to lead the design function at BuildxWise. This role will be pivotal in developing the core range of homes, ensuring they are practical, compliant, and cost-effective.

While this is a senior role, the initial phase will require a hands-on approach, where the successful candidate will be expected to draft, refine designs, and establish processes before building out the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine the master house design, creating three core floor plans (23, 24 & 25sq) that form the foundation of BuildxWise’s product range.
• Design five facades – two low-spec and three high-spec – ensuring market appeal and diversity.
• Be hands-on with drafting and design in the early stages, laying the groundwork for future team expansion.
• Collaborate with estimators, engineers, and surveyors to optimise designs for efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage developer design approvals, ensuring all homes comply with estate and planning guidelines.
• Document selections to streamline the build process and enhance client experience.
• Ensure compliance with Australian building codes, regulations, and industry best practices.

About You

• 10+ years of experience in residential drafting and design, with a strong background in volume home construction.
• Accredited Architecture Degree (required)
• Proficiency in industry-standard drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent).
• Strong technical knowledge of Australian construction standards, planning regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Hands-on approach – willing to be on the tools initially, establishing systems before stepping into a more managerial role.
• Ability to balance design and efficiency, ensuring homes are cost-effective, buildable, and visually compelling.
• Effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with consultants, developers, and internal teams.
