About the Role
Are you a strategic leader with a passion for integrity, governance, and high-level policy advice? The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is seeking a Manager, Organisational Integrity and Government Business to provide expert guidance on compliance, risk management, and government processes at the highest level.

Reporting to the Director, Office of the Chief Executive, this critical leadership role is responsible for safeguarding DEW's organisational integrity and ensuring transparency in decision-making. You will provide high-level strategic advice, oversee complex internal reviews, and lead investigations into significant and sensitive matters, including those referred by agencies such as the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and the Ombudsman.

This role also drives the management of DEW's government business functions, including parliamentary, cabinet, and ministerial correspondence processes, ensuring timely and well-informed policy advice is provided to the Chief Executive and Minister. You will work closely with senior executives, legal experts, and government stakeholders to manage risk, compliance, and legislative matters, contributing to DEW's overall performance and strategic direction.

Additionally, you will:

  • Develop and implement an integrity and compliance framework to manage complaints and disputes effectively.
  • Oversee and coordinate investigations into complex matters and complaints, ensuring they are handled appropriately and efficiently.
  • Engage with the Crown Solicitor's Office and other key legal bodies to ensure sound legal and policy outcomes.
  • Support DEW's strategic objectives through policy and legislative reviews.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of three staff, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and strategic leader with:

  • Highly developed skills in research, analysis, and synthesising conflicting information, enabling sound decision-making in complex situations.
  • Significant experience in resolving complaints, disputes, and other matters within a legislative, risk, and governance framework.
  • Extensive experience in interpreting and applying legislation and policy in challenging and sensitive contexts.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, particularly in high-pressure environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, liaise, and influence senior stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of public sector governance and its application in managing risk and compliance
  • Experience in the development of policy and procedure, ensuring best practice and organisational alignment.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties.
  • This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. Remuneration: ASO8 - $121,107 min - $125,679 max p.a.
