About The Opportunity

As a Strategic Planner, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining Bundaberg’s land use planning framework, ensuring that growth aligns with community needs and Council’s long-term vision. This role is perfect for a solutions-driven planner who enjoys working on diverse strategic planning projects, shaping policy, and engaging with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning projects - Conduct research, studies, and analyses to improve land use planning and policy.
  • Develop and maintain planning instruments - Prepare amendments to the Bundaberg Regional Planning Scheme and statutory planning documents.
  • Ensure legislative compliance - Review planning instruments in line with the Planning Act 2016 and best practices.
  • Provide expert advice - Consult with Council, community members, and stakeholders on planning matters.
  • Advocate for sustainable growth - Represent Council in working groups, forums, and inter-agency planning initiatives.
  • Prepare professional reports - Develop high-quality reports, strategies, and policy recommendations.
  • Manage planning correspondence - Respond to inquiries regarding strategic land use and policy development.

About You

We’re seeking a proactive planner with the skills and experience to drive policy development and land use strategies.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Full membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (Registered Planner status highly desirable).
  • Current Driver’s Licence.

Desired:

  • Experience in strategic planning, development assessment and planning scheme drafting.
  • Experience in Local Government planning or development assessment team will be highly regarded.
