We are seeking a passionate, motivated and supportive individual to fill the role of Victim Support Worker in the Victims Assistance Program (VAP). The aim of the VAP is to assist victim-survivors by providing an accessible service where clients are listened to, informed, and empowered in their pathway to recovery. As the Victim Support Worker, you will respond to those that have experienced violent crime against the person. They might be a primary, secondary or related Victim-Survivor. The program is developed to assist clients with any support needs that have arisen as a result of the crime. You will be providing your clients with information, assist them through any police or justice system processes, refer to other services and respond with any other actions as required.
The VSW’s primary function is commence Intake and Assessment for all clients accessing the VAP. Through allocation of clients for support the VSW will then commence ongoing service delivery with clients including accessing therapeutic interventions, accessing brokerage, assisting with Victim Impact Statements, VOCAT applications, attending police and court matters, and ongoing practical, emotional and task-based support. The VSW will also be required to co-locate from Victorian Police Stations in the Hume Region, travel to support clients, attend all court related to the matter which is inclusive of but not limited to Children’s, County, Magistrates, Supreme and all other court locations.
Selection Criteria:
- A relevant qualification such as a Bachelor of Social Work, Behavioural Science or Diploma of Community Services with relevant 2 years experience
- Experience in implementing best practice approaches to engage victims, including those with multiple and complex needs, including experience in delivering a trauma informed policies and strength based practices when working with victims.
- Experience in providing flexible and responsive service delivery to victims with low, medium and/or high needs, including the use of appropriate assessment methods to determine level of risk, needs, intervention and engagement.
- Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills
