Safety Coordinator
Location: Rocklea, Brisbane
Salary: $60.00 – $65.00 per hour (based on experience)
Contract Type: 12-month MTC (with annual leave & sick leave accrual)

About the Role

Are you a Safety Coordinator who thrives in a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground role? If you're looking for a position where you can make a real difference on-site, this is the role for you. Based in Rocklea, Brisbane, this is not your typical office-based safety position. We are looking for a Safety Coordinator who can confidently engage with workers, identify hazards, and enforce safety protocols while also handling essential admin and compliance tasks.

This is a 12-month MTC role with competitive pay and the opportunity to make an impact in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety Walks & Floor Engagement: Walk the floor daily, actively engaging with workers and contractors to identify safety hazards, correct unsafe behaviour, and enforce safe work practices.
• Toolbox Talks & Training: Conduct regular toolbox talks to engage workers on safety topics, helping to foster a strong safety culture on-site.
• Safety Observations: Monitor and report on safety observations, ensuring all unsafe actions, behaviours, and conditions are addressed and corrected.
• Inductions & Onboarding: Administer site inductions, worker onboarding, and ensure all new staff are briefed on safety protocols and project-specific requirements.
• SWMS & Permits Management: Manage and track Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and permits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Admin & Compliance: Assist with general administrative tasks, including safety reports, audits, and documentation, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
• KPI Accountability: Be KPI-driven, with a focus on proactive safety observations, hazard identification, and corrective actions.
• Collaboration with Contractors: Work closely with contractors to ensure they understand and adhere to safety practices, stopping any hazardous work and helping find safer alternatives.

About You

We are looking for someone who is confident, assertive, and ready to take responsibility for creating a safe and compliant work environment. You should have:

• Strong Admin & Compliance Skills: Experience in safety administration, compliance tasks, and managing IT systems and safety software.
• Site Safety Exposure: Some hands-on experience with safety engagement, including interacting with site employees to ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Confident & Assertive: Ability to confidently stop unsafe work, behaviours, or environments and work with contractors to implement safer practices.
• IT Proficiency: Competent with safety management software, reporting tools, and general computer-based tasks.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to conduct safety talks, engage workers, and work with contractors and project teams.
• Weekend Flexibility: Must be flexible to work every second Saturday (5:30 am – 4:00 pm). If you're not open to working weekends, this role is not right for you.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm (overtime paid)
• Saturday: Every second Saturday, 5:30 am – 4:00 pm (with overtime paid)
