We are seeking an experienced and passionate Affordable Housing Specialist to join our dynamic team at Willoughby Council!

About the role

As an Affordable Housing Specialist, you will lead and manage a variety of affordable housing initiatives, policy development, and projects aimed at increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable housing within the Local Government Area (LGA).

You will work autonomously with the support of the Manager, Community Life, to deliver expert advice and represent the Council on housing policy, social housing, community consultation, and strategic planning issues. You will be required to conduct in-depth research and develop policies to enhance and advocate for affordable housing supply within the LGA and the broader region.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Social Planning, or a related field, or significant relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the political, legal and socio-economic context in which Council operates.
  • Experience conducting social research and evaluating social outcomes.
  • Ability to report research findings and draft proposals to inform policy and practice.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of community development and social planning projects.
  • Experience in designing and conducting community consultation projects that inform and empower communities.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication, including the ability to present complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Awareness of and commitment to the principles of Work Health and Safety (WHS) and a commitment to attend relevant training.
  • Awareness of and commitment to the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

Desirable Criteria

  • Post-graduate qualification in social planning or related field.
  • Experience in Local Government.
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
