About the Opportunities

YFS is looking for a full-time Housing Specialist – Centre-Based based in Slacks Creek, QLD.

Reporting to the Program Manager, this role is responsible for supporting individuals and families in securing stable housing while providing advocacy to address housing-related challenges.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assessing client housing needs and developing tailored support plans
  • Providing advocacy, and referrals to relevant services
  • Assisting clients with applications for housing, tenancy, and financial assistance
  • Building relationships with landlords, real estate agents, and housing providers
  • Educating clients on tenancy rights, responsibilities, and budgeting strategies
  • Coordinating with community organisations and government agencies to enhance housing access
  • Monitoring client progress and adjusting support strategies as needed
  • Supporting crisis intervention and conflict resolution related to housing issues
  • Maintaining accurate case notes and records in compliance with reporting requirements
  • Contributing to program development, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
About You

To qualify, you will need a relevant qualification in social work, community services, housing support, or a related field. Prior experience in housing support, short support or homelessness services will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability
  • Knowledge of tenancy laws, rental assistance programs, and housing support services
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and client-centered approaches
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, and support agencies

As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively support clients, advocate for their needs, and collaborate with external stakeholders. You will also demonstrate compassion, resilience, and adaptability in working with vulnerable populations while maintaining professionalism and integrity. You must be able to handle competing priorities and have the ability to build strong relationships fast while maintaining a high level of customer service.

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to obtain a current Queensland C Class driver’s license, First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain), Positive Notice Blue Card, and National Police Check
