The Adelaide Law School at the University of Adelaide (Adelaide, South Australia) invites applications for several positions at the levels of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor. These are full time, continuing teaching and research roles.

The South Australian Law Reform Institute, based in the Adelaide Law School, plays a vital role in advancing law reform and promoting access to justice. Through our partnerships with government, industry, and civil society organisations, we address pressing legal issues and drive positive social change. We are seeking candidates across multiple academic levels (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor) who can carry out and lead research, scholarship, and professional activities. Successful applicants will have strong records of high-quality publications appropriate to their career stage, experience in supervision of higher degree research, and demonstrated ability to attract external research funding.
We are seeking candidates across multiple academic levels (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor) who can carry out and lead research, scholarship, and professional activities. Successful applicants will have strong records of high-quality publications appropriate to their career stage, with expectations for higher degree research supervision and external research funding commensurate with experience. We welcome applications from researchers across all fields of legal scholarship, particularly valuing expertise in private law (especially at the intersections of technological advancement, intellectual property, ethics and governance, property law, and equity and trusts), military law, and legal theory and critical perspectives. Candidates should be highly motivated, comfortable working independently, and proven reliable team players dedicated to inspiring the next generation of legal professionals through their teaching and academic leadership.
To be successful you will need:
Level B
- Completion of a doctoral qualification of law and a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
- Evidence of a high research potential demonstrated through high quality journal publications or a pipeline of papers targeting high-quality refereed journals.
- Experience in effective teaching in law, mentoring and supervision of students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work within academic teams.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
- The ability to take a role in outreach activities of the Law School, and to promote the Law School and the discipline of law in the University, amongst the legal profession, and in the wider community.
Level C
- Completion of a doctoral qualification of law and a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated research experience including a strong track record of high-quality publications, supervision of higher degree research and ability to attract external research funding.
- Experience in effective teaching in law at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, course coordination, and curriculum design and development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to effectively work within and to lead academic teams.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
- The ability to take a lead role in outreach activities of the Law School, and to promote the Law School and the discipline of law in the University, amongst the legal profession, and in the wider community.
Level D
- Completion of a doctoral qualification of law and a Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated independent and original contributions to research in their field of expertise which have a national impact and international impact.
- Evidences a consistent record or leadership and success in gaining research income including through nationally competitive grants and industry funds.
- Ability to lead major research programs and engages and mentors the work of other participants in significant research projects.
- Evidence of sustained successful PhD completions as principal supervisor.
- Experience in effective teaching in law at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and ability to develop and lead innovation in curricula and programs to enhance the University’s standing as a national leader in education.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and with demonstrated effective leadership to peers and colleagues demic teams.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
