Mechanical Engineer

CDI Electrics Pty Ltd T/A CDI ENERGY is one of Australia’s leading PV Installation companies with a high focus on safety and quality. We provide a wide range of solar solutions from rooftop PV installations, through to ground mount solar systems, on grid systems and off grid systems or sometimes better known as SAPS (Stand Alone Power Systems). CDI Developed its own Rapid Solar Module RSM3 allowing us to drastically cut installation costs and install times on ground mount solar projects.

Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the engineering function meets project-specific requirements with a focus on electromechanical integration, mechanical design, and compliance standards.

Responsibilities:
• Engineering Design and Drafting:
o Utilize CAD and MicroStation software to develop detailed engineering designs and drafts for Standalone Power Systems (SPS) projects, with a focus on mechanical and electromechanical systems.
o Maintain updated design documentation throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring it meets all project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
o Support the engineering team to ensure all mechanical and electromechanical designs comply with Horizon Power standards and safety regulations.
• Documentation and Compliance:
o Prepare and manage comprehensive engineering design documentation, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
o Collaborate with CDI Energy’s document control team to ensure timely issuance and accessibility of all documents and drawings.
o Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering and safety standards, particularly those applicable to mechanical systems.
• Project Management:
o Lead the design, development, and execution of the UGL Standalone Power System Project with Horizon Power, ensuring timely completion in line with project schedules.
o Coordinate with the factory fabrication team to meet production timelines and deliver engineering requirements.
o Ensure that engineering-supported projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet established quality standards.
o Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to provide updates, gather requirements, and address any issues that arise.
• Contract Management:
o Familiarize yourself with the UGL SPS Contract for Works and notify the Contracts Administrator of any potential delays or variations as per contract terms.
• Technical Expertise:
o Provide technical guidance for the design and implementation of mechanical and electromechanical systems in the Standalone Power System Project, adapting the latest renewable energy technology as appropriate.
o Ensure detailed engineering support from GTE Engineering is consistently high-quality and meets all project needs.
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of renewable energy and power system advancements, integrating new innovations into project designs where applicable.
• Budget and Resource Management:
o Develop and manage the project engineering budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and implementing cost-saving measures as feasible.
• UGL/SPS Project Responsibilities:
o CDI Energy and UGL Group have been awarded the design, equipment supply, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of 50 standalone power systems (SPS) in the Esperance region as part of the HP SPS Project.
o Oversee the complete system design and associated documentation and drawings in alignment with Horizon Power Standards.
o Manage and submit project documentation at key design milestones (15%, 50%, and 85%) to meet project requirements.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ proven experience in a similar project-focused environment, with experience in mechanical and electromechanical systems preferred.
