About the role
Oxley NSW is seeking an experienced Estimator/Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Prestons, NSW. This full-time role is critical in providing strategic technical and commercial support for our mechanical engineering projects and operations. As the Estimator/Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key part in the successful delivery of our projects by accurately estimating costs and timelines, as well as providing engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
What you'll be doing
- Conducting plant inspections to ensure optimal performance is maintained.
- Overseeing project labour, material delivery, and the coordination of plant and equipment.
- Implementing work measurement programs and assessing work samples to establish labour utilisation standards.
- Evaluating workforce distribution, facility layout, operational data, production schedules, and costs to maximise worker and equipment efficiency.
- Designing mechanical equipment, machines, components, and products for manufacturing, as well as plants and systems for construction.
- Developing manufacturing specifications and determining materials, equipment, piping, material flows, capacities, and plant layouts.
- Setting standards and policies for installation, modifications, quality control, testing, inspections, and maintenance in line with engineering principles and safety regulations.
- Managing plant maintenance, coordinating building upkeep, and planning new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules.
- Reviewing functional statements, organisational charts, and project details to define worker roles and responsibilities while identifying redundancies. Prepare detailed cost estimates and feasibility assessments for new mechanical engineering projects
- Analyse technical requirements, project plans and specifications to identify resource needs and timelines
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to provide engineering insights and recommendations
- Support the engineering team with technical problem-solving and process improvements
- Ensure projects adhere to budgets, timelines and quality standards
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to optimise procurement and logistics
- Document processes and maintain comprehensive project records
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 1 years' experience as an Estimator or Mechanical Engineer in the construction or engineering industry
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical systems design, implementation and troubleshooting
- Proficient in cost estimation, budgeting and financial analysis
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Familiarity with relevant Australian standards and regulations
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Local knowledge & experience will assist
