The Department of Communities brings together the services and functions of disability services, child protection and family support, housing, community initiatives and regional services reform.

Communities is a nationally recognised Accredited Carer Friendly Employer through the Carers + Employers program. The program defines best practice standards by creating a carer friendly workplace, enabling staff to balance work and care, while continuing to contribute to the wellbeing of individuals, families and the community.

The Wheatbelt Region

The Wheatbelt is home to one of Western Australia’s most visited attractions, Pinnacles Desert. There is much mystery surrounding these 150,000 limestone structures and whether they are sea shell residue, the remains of an old forest or the ruins of an ancient city. Here, you will also find the world-famous Wave Rock – a 15-metre high multicoloured granite formation resembling a giant wave that runs more than 100 metres in length.

The Region is made up of more than 200 communities and boasts a rich heritage and cultural diversity. So working here offers a unique opportunity to work within these communities, which have strong ties to culture, ceremony and the arts. This include being part of Hyden’s Wave Rock Weekender, one of many festivals on the calendar that contribute to The Wheatbelt’s vibrant arts, cultural and sporting scene, along with the Kulin Bush Races and the world-class Avon Descent.

Come and experience a destination like no other, contribute to a culturally rich region, and develop professional relationships that will last a lifetime!
