Remuneration: Remuneration starts from $134,593 per annum plus superannuation, depending on experience

What are we looking for?
The Treaty Authority seeks an experienced and passionate manager to lead its research and evaluation team. This role is vital in supporting negotiations with methodologies rooted in Indigenous paradigms, ensuring the Authority’s approach is robust and culturally informed.
The ideal candidate will have lived experience and a deep understanding of Victorian First Peoples', with extensive experience working with First Peoples’ communities and organisations. Strong leadership, creativity, and technical research skills are essential, along with a commitment to advancing self-determination and empowerment within the Treaty process.
This role offers a unique opportunity to build relationships with Traditional Owners, experts, and stakeholders and contribute to best practices in the Treaty process.
What you need to succeed:
The Treaty Authority seeks an experienced leader to manage the design, delivery, and monitoring of its research agenda and evaluation framework.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading research projects and developing high-quality, evidence-based outputs to support Treaty negotiations.
- Managing complex, culturally responsible research aligned with strategic objectives.
- Establishing external partnerships, providing research advice, and supporting Indigenous research methodologies.
- Overseeing the Research and Evaluation team, fostering their growth through coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
- Promoting cultural safety and effective intercultural communication.
This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a passion for advancing the Treaty process.
About the Treaty Authority
The Treaty Authority is an independent entity with a mandate to facilitate the formation of treaties between the State of Victoria and First Peoples in Victoria.
The Treaty Authority’s work is grounded in Aboriginal culture, lore and law and led collectively by a panel of five Members committed to Aboriginal self-determination and empowerment. It engages with a broad cross-section of stakeholders including the State of Victoria, the First Peoples’ Assembly and Traditional Owners in Victoria.
The objects of the Treaty Authority’s work are to:
- Facilitate the journey towards reconciliation, mutual respect and tolerance between First Peoples and other people of the State and to
- Maintain, promote and advance the self-determination and empowerment, culture and human rights of First Peoples.
What you’ll bring:
We are seeking a highly skilled individual with:
- Lived experience with and a deep understanding of Victorian First Peoples and proven ability to engage with First Peoples.
- A postdoctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience in a research-focused role, ideally within a not-for-profit organisation.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, with a track record in research supervision and publication.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience to thrive in a dynamic environment.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly across Victoria.
