The purpose of this role is to provide broad Careers Counselling to students as well as a focus on management of the school’s VET program. This will include administrative support and liaison with stakeholders to assist in the implementation of programs and systems that support VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) in accordance with Department of Education and Training policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • To abide by the Schools Code of Conduct which expect and require staff and visitors to ensure the protection of all students.
  • To fully support the school’s Child Safe Policy for the prevention of student abuse by identifying risks early, taking all allegations and concerns seriously, reporting to appropriate staff who have specific responsibilities regarding Child Safety to remove and reduce risks to all students at Camberwell High School
  • Ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of support documentation and tasks
  • Be readily approachable by parents, students, staff and the wider community
  • To ensure adherence to all Occupational Health and Safety guidelines specific to the work area

Responsibilities & Duties

Careers Counselling

  • Work with the other Careers Counsellor to provide ongoing careers counselling advice to students from Years 9-12
  • Support the organization of the school’s Careers Expo

VET Selection

  • Collate and record VET Expressions of Interest from students
  • Submit VET applications in line with respective RTO processes and timelines

VET Enrolment

  • Liaise with RTO/VET contacts regarding all VET related issues – enrolments, class allocations, changes and withdrawals.
  • Liaise with all second year VET students regarding re-enrolment in their courses and process re-enrolments for the following year.

VET Funding and VET Materials

  • Provide VET enrolments to VASS Coordinator to ensure they are entered on the VASS system to be eligible to receive the school targeted VET funding.
  • Submit VET material reimbursements as per course classification.

Student Attendance and Progress

  • Monitor student attendance and progress
  • Confirm VET student absences and notify the relevant RTO of the student absence prior to class
  • Notify students/parents/house leaders for students identified as “At Risk of Failure”

Student Results

  • Provide Units of Competency and Results to VASS Coordinator – troubleshoot/resolve any issues
  • Distribute/mail out VET Certificates of Completion or Statements of Attainment

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)/School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)

  • Promote SWL and SBAT opportunities to VET/VCAL students
  • Assist students to search for and arrange SWL placements or SBATs
  • Liaise with LLENs, local employers and Apprenticeship Support Networks, regarding placements
  • Gather and administer relevant documents
  • Obtain Principal Signatures
  • Distribute finalised SWL forms to all parties
  • Communicate with employers/students to ensure placements are safe and satisfactory
  • Ensure students meet to required SWL placement hours for their VET program
  • Provide SBAT Training Plans, Course Codes and UOCs to VASS
  • Ensure Safe @ Work General and Industry Modules are completed, signed and kept on file

Selection Criteria

  • Strong administration and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and passion for delivering work to a high standard
  • Strong organisational and time management skills including the ability to manage competing and/or changing priorities
  • Capacity to undertake routine support tasks across a range of functions in one or more work areas within a school environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support and/or attendant care to students where necessary
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office systems, software or technical equipment as relevant to the position
  • Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including teachers, education support, students and parents
  • A commitment to professional learning and growth
  • Ability to respond promptly to requests using initiative and follow through to completion
