Lower Murray Water (LMW) is a water corporation providing services to around 80,000 urban and rural customers along the Murray River. Our service region lies within the traditional lands of First Nations Peoples, starting from Barapa Barapa (Koondrook), travelling downstream along the Murray River through Latji Latji (Mildura) and flowing to Ngintait at the South Australian border. With over 200 staff located in and around Mildura, Swan Hill, Kerang and Robinvale, our vision is for a healthy, sustainable water future.

We are seeking a self-motivated and team-oriented individual with a practical mindset to join our Water Quality Team. The successful candidate will support the effective management of trade waste through robust monitoring and customer engagement.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the Team Leader Water Quality, you will ensure compliance with trade waste regulations and contribute to the effective management of trade waste at LMW. The role involves monitoring, assessing, and engaging with businesses that discharge trade waste to ensure adherence to the Environmental Protection Act, Water Act, and relevant LMW’s policy and procedures.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Contribute to a safety-first culture.
• Provide technical support on the management of trade waste, including assessment, approval, monitoring, and enforcement.
• Identify potential new trade waste businesses, advocate for LMW’s trade waste policy and procedures, and implement and enforce trade waste agreements.
• Schedule and perform compliance and sample inspections for trade waste.
• Conduct backflow prevention compliance inspections.
• Liaise with trade waste customers, providing timely responses to their inquiries, including complex queries, and investigate and report trade waste-related incidents and complaints.
• Prepare and manage trade waste accounts and related correspondence.
• Undertake trade waste sampling and inspections to ensure compliance with LMW’s trade waste policy and procedures.
• Undertake water quality and wastewater sampling as required.
• Represent LMW professionally at all times.

About you:

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is safety-conscious and eager to work in a fast-paced team environment. To be successful in this role, you should have the following qualifications and attributes:

• A certificate in Plumbing & Drainage or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work as part of a team with a positive attitude.
• Knowledge of trade waste generation and pre-treatment processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Proven ability to work with an operational team to support plan execution.
• Understanding of safe and effective work practices.
• Experience in backflow prevention is advantageous.
• Understanding of capital work systems is desirable but not essential.
