Permanent Appointment – Multiple Opportunities
Ensure Safety and Compliance: Lead as a Senior Gas Inspector.
Remuneration package of up to $167,433 per annum*
Remuneration is based on salary $115,824 - $127,647 pa, superannuation and attraction and retention incentive (ARI) payments. ARI payments are subject to periodic review and approval. The ARI payment is set to expire on 30 June 2025. Extension of the ARI payment beyond that term is subject to further government decision.
These positions are part of the Building and Energy Division, which is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the Western Australian community. The Division is responsible for overseeing the operations of the electrical, gas, painting, plumbing, and building services industries. This includes establishing and monitoring technical standards, conducting inspections, investigating complaints and legislative breaches, and regulating the conduct of licensed professionals and businesses operating within these sectors.
About the role
This role is critical in maintaining gas safety standards, conducting investigations, and enforcing regulatory requirements across various sectors
The role:
- Coordinate and/or undertake investigations of fatalities, traumatic and serious incidents, breaches and complaints.
- Provide advice and information in accordance with the Directorate procedures to management, government investigators and families of seriously injured or deceased persons.
- Undertake complex and sensitive investigations and high-level enforcement activity in line with Directorate programs and policies and the Directorate's Operational Plan
- Coordinate and undertake inspections of consumers gas installations, including Type A gas appliances (fixed, portable or mobile), Type B gas appliances, equipment and pipework, and appliances or installations not connected to gas networks, and in metro, regional and/or remote locations and mine sites
- Prepare documentation required to enforce gas, technical and safety legislation, prepare investigation and prosecution reports and present evidence in courts, and to disciplinary bodies.
- Undertake audits of network operators' consumer installation inspection systems and network operators' supply systems and work practices
- Identify emerging issues to improve gas, technical and safety performance, recommend legislative and other changes to address those issues and apply these to industry sector or organisations.
- Respond to requests for complex regulatory and technical information and prepare and deliver presentations and training in respect of gas safety legislation and relevant standards. Initiate and respond to correspondence and prepare documentation required for enforcing gas safety legislation
Essential requirements for this role:
- Substantial experience in carrying out various types of gas fitting work, in gas fitting supervision (or similar) and in gas fitting inspection activities (or similar).
- Knowledge and practical application of the relevant Acts, Regulations, Australian Standards, policies, procedures and guidelines that are applicable to gas fitting, gas networks and licensing of gas fitters.
- Certificate of competency in gas fitting or a gas fitting permit endorsed Class G and I, with extensive practical industrial gas fitting experience. Class E and P gas fitting permits or equivalent certificates of competency are advantageous.
