We seek a motivated and inspiring Chef to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
The Chef is responsible for planning, developing, ordering and preparing nutritious meals for our children.
You will have a kitchen hand to support you at different peak times of the day while mentoring others to step into the role of kitchen hand when needed.
There is the ability to mentor another up-and-coming chef to replace you for annual leave and sick leave.
Preparation of a diverse range of healthy, nutritious and economical meals and snacks for children from birth to school age
The ability to plan menus, order for menus and ensure that adequate storage of basic food is available at all times
Manage the kitchen area to ensure that the highest standards of hygiene, food preparation, handling and safety practices are maintained
Evaluate, collaborate and develop new menu ideas with all stakeholders that reflect the changing needs of the service
Maintain a clean and safe kitchen
Plan and prepare for centre events - large-scale events (upwards of 500 people) that support the learning and community of the centre
Ensure workplace health and safety steps are taken to reduce the risk of injury and illness
Ordering supplies, using approved suppliers, while being mindful of the use of fresh and seasonal foods
Manage food purchases along budgetary guidelines
Be responsible for the delivery of all meals on time and under the centre's strict routine timeframes - efficiency and organisation skills are paramount.
Qualifications:
They will be required to hold a Food Safety Supervisor qualification and have reasonable experience in the preparation of meals, budgeting, menu planning and compliance with the Approved Food Business.
We are seeking applicants with Chef qualifications - Certificate in cookery/chef qualification - Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or higher.
AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE AS A CHEF IS NEEDED.
This role will be full-time and Monday - Friday. You will not be required to work weekends.
Successful candidates will need to have a Certificate in cookery/chef qualifications - Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or higher is required along with:
- A passion for creating and delivering healthy, nutritious and delicious meals and menus
- Possess a current Blue Card (for paid workers)
- Hold a current CPR and First Aid certificate, including Asthma and Anaphylaxis
- Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions, understand routines, and maintain a high level of hygiene
- Embrace the center's values and philosophy
