Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits – Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland. Dawson Mine was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963.
Job Description
Dawson Mine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geologist to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moura, QLD. The geologist role plays a key role in maximising the resource at Dawson Mine, within the Technical Services team. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Geologist provides short to medium term geological advice on how to optimise the value of all existing and proposed production areas. Key focus is identification of geological hazards, mapping and data validation to generate fit for purpose short term models for mine and drill and blast planning and daily operational support to ensure the minimisation of coal loss and contamination and reconciliation to assist in continuous improvement.
Effective communication and collaboration with short-term planning, exploration, survey, and operational teams is a key to the role and high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills will be instrumental in your success.
Qualifications
- 3D modelling software packages, preferably Minescape
- Geological databases eg acQuire
- Autocad
- Tertiary qualifications in Geological Sciences or equivalent.
- At least one year experience in operational mining, preferably open cut coal mining.
- Experience with the following software packages would be preferable.
- Strong analysis, problem solving and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
