Duties:
Responsible for Field Staff, Drilling Contractors and Ground Clearing Contractors when working on drilling programs under the control of this position, including, but not limited to:
- Liaising with all stakeholders to complete grade determination drilling programs on nominated stockpiles safely, ensuring best practice drilling and sampling methodologies, and maintaining cost efficiency
- Understanding and monitoring/controlling breaches of Company policy
- Understanding drilling proposals and exploration/resource concepts
- Awareness of appropriate permits and statutory requirements of exploration techniques
- Work area inspections (drill sites, core yard etc.)
- Managing and organizing relevant Contractors as required
- Making relevant decisions with respect to the drilling programs based on geological knowledge, experienced and cost saving parameters
Awareness of environment and heritage, including, but not limited to:
- Rehabilitating drill sites after drilling
- Managing clearing for minimum environmental impact
- Awareness of environmental and heritage restrictions/guidelines
- Identify potential environmental and heritage areas
Knowledge transfer by data acquisition and geologic interpretation, defining potential resource/reserves, including but not limited to:
- Resource definition through geologic interpretation/increasing geologic confidence
- Reasonable contact outside of normal work hours may be required for urgent operational reasons, such as safety or production issues that cannot wait until the next shift due to potential risk, cost, or organizational related impacts. Contact will be via telephone or email. The frequency may be 1-2 queries per day, or as necessary. Forward planning will help avoid this contact, but unforeseen circumstances may still justify reasonable contact.
- Working autonomously with tasks completed to consistent and high professional standard
Skills and Experience:
- Resource definition (drilling)
- Exploration geology
- Database management
- Relevant degree from a recognised tertiary institution;
- Skilled in mining and geostatistical software;
- Satisfactory GSDU / NPC clearance;
- Senior First Aid Certificate (desirable);
- Affiliation to a Professional Body / Organisation (AusIMM /AIG) (desirable).
- Minimum two-year professional experience after graduation;
- Practical background in at least some of the following is required:
- Previous production geology experience
- Competent with demonstrated skills in spreadsheet and presentation applications, word processing and Database applications.
- Exposure to 3D Mining Software (Surpac or similar) (desirable).
- Ability to engage team and others to solve problems, develop solutions and get things done.
- Ability to earn respect through fair treatment of people, clear task assignment, coaching, feedback and performance management.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships required to achieve role purpose.
