The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking to employ a Primary Teacher Aide (Student Support – EALD)

The role of the Teacher Aide (Student Support – EALD) will be to contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting students with EAL/D learning needs, the preparation/enhancement of learning materials and associated activities in our Primary School.

This position will be Part-time - 3 Days per week (days to be negotiated with the successful candidate).

Fixed Term – until 28.11.2025

POSITION: Teacher Aide (Student Support – EALD)

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Term-Time, Fixed Term until 28.11.2025

REPORTS TO: Head of Primary

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting students with EAL/D learning needs, the preparation/enhancement of learning materials and associated activities

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WORKING WITH EALD STUDENTS
The duties of this Teacher Aide role are specifically focused on supporting students learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) and include a variety of activities. These activities are not exhaustive, and other relevant tasks may be performed by the successful applicant, provided that such duties are appropriate to the nature, classification level, and purpose of the position.

You will be responsible for leading the following activities and delivering the following key tasks:

  • Language Support: Support EALD students acquisition of English through a range of literacy activities, and help students access curriculum, focusing on enhancing their conversational English, literacy skills and comprehension.
  • Supervision of Educational Activities: Assist in the supervision of subjects (e.g., Art, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies) under the direction of the teacher. Provide direct 1:1 and small group support to EALD students with specific learning goals and tasks, focusing on language development and academic content.
  • Preparation and Management of Teaching Materials: Assist in preparing, storing, and making available teaching equipment and materials that specifically cater to the needs of EALD students, ensuring that resources are accessible and appropriate.
  • Support During Activities: Assist with playground duties, bus supervision, sporting activities, and school excursions, ensuring that EALD students are included and supported in all activities.
  • Student Welfare and Safety: Contribute to the welfare, health, and safety of students, including delivering basic First Aid and being attentive to student needs.
  • Photography: Take photographs with a digital camera and print them as required for school activities.
  • Other Duties: Carry out other reasonable non-professional duties at the discretion of the teacher and the Head of Primary, particularly those that assist EALD students in accessing the curriculum and develop a sense of belonging to the school community.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE

  • Working with Children Check;
  • Police Check;
  • Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate;
  • Certificate III in Education Support or equivalent previous work experience;
  • Experience in working with students who are learning English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) will be highly regarded.

  • Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
  • Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
  • Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
  • Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
  • Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
  • Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification check and professional registration checks.
