The role of Health & Safety Coordinator is to provide direction to site personnel in QMAG’s Safety, Health and Environment Management system, and legislative requirements.

About The Role

The role will involve:

  • Demonstrate Health & Safety leadership by providing advice, interpretation and guidance to site management on statutory requirements and best practice developments within the health & safety (H&S) sector.
  • Assist the Parkhurst operations with maintaining standards, certifications, licenses and legislative compliance requirements within H&S. This includes under various legislative pieces, including WHS, Gas and Petroleum and Radiation legislation.
  • Management of health & safety reporting systems along with regulatory reporting systems.
  • Ensure the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Integrated Management System (Health, Safety, Quality and Environment).
  • Develop, review and implement HSQT procedures (SOPs) through site H&S committee and employees.
  • Facilitate risk assessments including JRA’s and WRAC’s.
  • Assist with the Change Management practices to ensure risks are reduced to within acceptable limits.
  • Work with the Training Department to establish and implement an active health & safety program through competency training with employees and contractors.
  • Coordinate the management and investigation of incidents and identify corrective and preventative control measures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Accompany regulatory assessors, auditors and inspectors during site inspections with the Site Manager. Oversee any corrective actions arising from identified deficiencies.

The Requirements

We are looking for people with the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety or related area preferable.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, mining or other heavy industries as a health and safety coordinator (or equivalent); preferably >5 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully coordinating and delivering project outcomes, and/or process improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Regulators.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards, specifically Work Health & Safety QLD, Petroleum and Gas QLD, QLD Radiation and Electrical.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes through consultation, collaboration and a high standard of communication skills.
  • Experience with Information Systems preferable (e.g. Incident, Actions Management, Document Management Systems).
