The role

The Principal Advisor, Health and Safety, reporting to the Director Safety Policy and Assurance, provides high-level advice, analysis and reports to executives and health, safety, and wellbeing practitioners across Queensland Health in relation to a range of workplace health and safety, workplace rehabilitation and psychosocial/wellbeing related matters

The role works collaboratively with key stakeholders across Queensland Health to develop, coordinate and implement strategic health and safety management systems, programs and initiatives. The role will focus on governance, engagement and promoting health and safety representatives. The role proactively monitors organisational health and safety performance, current research, emerging issues and industry trends to identify and develop innovative best practice initiatives and ensure legislative and policy compliance to address key WHS risks across the health system.

Key Reponsibilities:

  • Provide expert, strategic advice and support Executive and senior management on a range of complex organisational health, safety and wellbeing, injury management and workers' compensation issues.
  • Identify and analyse areas of need and conduct or coordinate appropriate training, professional development and other proactive services to enhance the ability of Queensland Health to effectively manage health, safety and wellbeing issues statewide.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with HHSs, industry Regulators, insurers, unions, government agencies and community groups.

The successful person

You will have demonstrated:

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary health, safety and wellbeing strategies and initiatives, including national and state policies, legislation, standards and trends, and the proven ability to apply that knowledge to develop and implement effective systems, policies and programs within a large public sector organisation.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the proven ability to analyse performance data and provide strategic advice and reports to drive systems improvement.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships and effectively liaise and collaborate with a range of stakeholders to facilitate their cooperation and support to achieve desired outcomes.
