Our work spans across a vast area in the Pilbara, ensuring Traditional Owners have a voice in heritage, environmental, and economic matters.

About the Role

As the Senior Project Advisor (Environmental) – Native Title, you will play a key role in supporting Banjima Traditional Owners in Native Title operations. This includes working primarily with mining companies, government agencies, and advisory bodies to support heritage, environmental, and cultural initiatives. You will lead engagement with stakeholders to ensure the protection and advancement of Banjima interests.

Some of Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing a portfolio of Native Title mining operations, heritage, and environmental approvals to achieve the best outcomes for Banjima People.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with Banjima Elders, Traditional Owners, and key stakeholders, ensuring engagement aligns with Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) principles.
  • Provide high-level advice on heritage (with external support), environmental approvals, and regulatory compliance, including reviewing project submissions and agreements.
  • Support compliance with Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) and contribute to negotiations that align with Banjima aspirations.
  • Travel to the Pilbara region, representing BNTAC in on-Country meetings, site visits, and heritage and environmental assessments as required.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience in environmental management/science—particularly within the mining industry. You will bring strong stakeholder engagement skills and a deep understanding of Aboriginal cultural and land rights issues.

Essential Criteria:

  • 3+ years’ experience in the mining industry or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulatory frameworks (EP Act, EPBC Act, RiWI Act).
  • Experience in engaging with regulatory stakeholders
  • Highly organised, with strong communication and time management skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas and work on-Country.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working with Traditional Owners and/or heritage committees
  • Identifies as a Banjima person and/or has strong cultural competency and experience working with Aboriginal communities.
  • Experience in heritage protection and land management.
