The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporate (MAP Co) is the State Government agency responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Melbourne Arts Precinct (MAPT) project as well as the operations, programming, promotion and maintenance of Fed Square.
MAP Co is overseeing the delivery of the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project that includes, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, a new gallery dedicated to contemporary art and design; Laak Boorndap, the 18,000 square metre public open space in the heart of the precinct; as well as significant upgrades to Arts Centre Melbourne and its historic State Theatre.
It also takes on the management and operations of Fed Square and is responsible for connecting a single continuous art, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through Southbank.
Once the transformation is complete, MAP Co will also manage and activate Laak Boorndap, the urban garden that will connect the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless and immersive cultural experience.
Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct - and as Melbourne's public square it is the civic, cultural and community heart of the city. It home to three of Victoria's major cultural institutions: ACMI - Australia's Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia along with an array of restaurants and cafes. Located opposite the iconic Flinders St Station, it is Melbourne's premier meeting place, tourist destination and event venue for thousands of free events every year.

About the role
The Senior Venue Supervisor oversees and coordinates a team of Venue Supervisors to ensure the seamless execution of customer experiences and events, while upholding Fed Square's high standards of service delivery and presentation excellence. The Senior Venue Supervisor supervise event operations staff and, contracted event staff. The role serves as a key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, providing leadership, support, and coordination to ensure the effective operation of front-of-house and back-of-house activities.
The Senior Venue Supervisor has the following responsibilities:
- Regularly patrol the precinct as a supervising duty manager to ensure the seamless and timely execution of events, activities, and site operations. Ensure adequate support and safety measures are in place.
- Mentor and motivate a team of Venue Supervisors to deliver exceptional customer service and event execution by fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Provide guidance, support, and training to Venue Supervisors and event labour teams to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
- Manage rostering, tasks and performance management of event delivery staff or contractors to ensure adequate levels of support for excellent service delivery.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders to support the event planning with clients, tenants, service providers, and emergency services.
- Oversee and actively check event schedules and documentation using the event management system (EBMS), ensuring accurate and timely communication with all parties involved.
- Collaborate closely with the Venue Operations Manager to uphold consistent best practice operational standards.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for event and venue operations to mitigate risks and drive business improvements. This includes compliance with council permits, engineering and OH&S regulations.
- Manage event inventory, including scheduling, stocktake and maintenance requirements of event related infrastructure and storage areas.
- Support emergency response efforts as directed, liaising with emergency services and act as venue warden as needed to ensure the safety and security of all stakeholders.
- Support financial management tasks, including quote approval, invoice processing, service orders, and purchase orders.
- Debrief with stakeholders for events as necessary, ensuring effective communication and resolution of issues.
Key Selection Criteria
- Leadership and Team Management: Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising a team of event operations employees, to deliver exceptional customer service and ensure seamless event execution.
- Effective Communication: The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in written and verbal form, to convey information, collaborate with team members, and interact with stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated skills in identifying, analysing, and resolving complex issues and challenges, utilising critical thinking and sound decision-making.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: A proven track record of working effectively in diverse teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment, and contributing to collective goals.
- Adaptability and Flexibility: The capacity to adapt to changing priorities, environments, and tasks, while maintaining a high level of performance and composure under pressure.
- Customer Focus: A commitment to providing exceptional customer service, meeting customer needs, and enhancing their overall experience.
Position Specific Requirements
This role will be rostered to work outside of ordinary hours on a regular basis, which will include early mornings, evenings and weekend work.
