Your Opportunity:

Tenterfield Shire Council is looking for a Plant Mechanic to join the Fleet Team in Tenterfield, NSW.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Conducting servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of plant and equipment.
  • Diagnosing and rectifying faults in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Performing technical remediation, welding, and fabrication work when required.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to apprentices in the team.
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Recording all work completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Liaising with operators and drivers to ensure equipment is maintained effectively.

This is an exciting and varied role within the fleet team, where no two days are the same - perfect for a skilled mechanic who values precision and enjoys working on various tools and equipment.

About You:

To be qualify for this role, you will need a relevant qualification in plant or motor mechanic trades, along with demonstrated experience in maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of vehicles, plants, and equipment.

Additionally, the following is required:

  • Competency and proficiency in gas and electric welding techniques (or ability to obtain)
  • Basic computer literacy skills
  • Understanding of safety standards regarding exposure to water, sewer, and waste
  • Construction Induction (White) Card
  • Current Class C Australian driver's licence

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Operation of earthmoving plant, basic fabrication, and welding skills
  • Crane and forklift certification, or the ability to obtain
  • Confined Spaces accreditation and current first aid certification
  • NSW Class LR, MR, HR, or HC driver's licence or equivalent, with truck operation experience
  • RMS Inspection Certification

This is a key role within our fleet team, ideal for a driven and skilled mechanic who values precision and quality workmanship in maintaining essential equipment for the community. We're looking for someone who thrives in a hands-on, collaborative environment while delivering high standards of mechanical support.

Please Note: The successful candidate must have a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence and hold, or be willing to obtain, a National Criminal History Record Check prior to commencing employment.
