Health Information Officer (Medico-Legal) Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick

The Role

This position is primarily responsible for processing requests for the release of information (ROI) contained in a person's clinical record. Requests are received from a variety of sources including patients, the Ministry of Health, legal entities and third parties. Copies of medical records, statements of attendance, and summaries of injury, expert witness statements and subpoena production are all requested. Enquiries in relation to birth and adoption information for the RHW and decommissioned women's hospitals in NSW all form part of the portfolio of duties undertaken by the officer.

  1. Ability to perform a wide range of administrative tasks in a demanding workload.
  2. Demonstrated experience in responding to a range of enquiries and ability to determine the appropriate response in a complex work environment.
  3. Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service and quality improvement initiatives in workplace practices and procedures.
  5. Computer literacy including Microsoft applications and patient administrative systems.
  6. Ability to work in a team.
  7. Demonstrated initiative and ability to problem solve.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of the HRIP Act, PIP Act, CYPCP Act, NSW Coroners Act, and GIPA Act desirable.
