The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The Media Branch is seeking EL1 Assistant Director Digital Media professionals to join the NDIA, as part of the Digital Media team.
We are seeking exceptional communicators, who have the ability to develop clear, concise, and impactful messaging across multiple platforms. You will have a passion for delivering best practice, inclusive and accessible communication, embodying the NDIA values and fostering a positive, participant-centered culture.
The Media Branch is responsible for engaging with the community through media, social media, digital media and events, to support participants, providers, and the broader community to understand and navigate the NDIS. The Digital Media team sits within the Branch, working to deliver multi-platform communication products that align with key corporate and Ministerial communications objectives.
Where you can add value
As the EL1 Assistant Director Digital Media, you will oversee the overarching digital media strategy and plans, to support NDIA announcements and media opportunities. You will develop and deliver innovative storytelling initiatives, working directly with participants and the public, to share impactful narratives and content that is accessible for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Developing opportunities to support the Scheme through Digital Media, including a focus on impactful human-centered storytelling to communicate the impact of the NDIS on changing participants’ lives.
- Presenting content which represents the Agency’s messages and objectives on diverse platforms across both owned and earned channels.
- Identifying opportunities for developing multimedia strategies in support of NDIA’s policies, programs and objectives and monitoring public debate on disability issues.
- Using data and research to inform the development of multimedia storytelling content for the Agency.
- Working across the Communications and Engagement Division and NDIA business areas, identifying opportunities for the development of strategic engaging digital content.
- Managing a team of multimedia content creators and fostering creativity and innovation in content creation across a range of channel sharing best practice and new skills in the team.

Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing multiple competing priorities, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will have exceptional written and verbal communication, and the skills to provide advice to support technical, policy and operational communications activities. You will have high-level presentation skills and the capacity to represent and negotiate on behalf of the Agency, across a range of forums.
In line with the values and mission of the NDIA, you will have a positive contemporary attitude to people with disability, along with understanding and knowledge of disability and its impact on individuals. While this role is ideally performed from Richmond - VIC, Geelong - VIC, Brisbane - QLD, Surry Hills - NSW, Adelaide - SA, Deakin - ACT, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
