The Role:
As the Senior Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and play a critical leadership role in driving manufacturing excellence and project fulfilment. As the most senior manufacturing leader in the company, you will oversee procurement, planning, production, and distribution, ensuring seamless operations and optimal efficiency. You will enhance operational performance, maintain strict safety and quality compliance, and foster a high-performing team dedicated to continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Manufacturing Leadership
- Oversee daily production schedules across day and afternoon shifts, ensuring optimal labour efficiency and meeting production targets.
- Recruit, develop, and manage the production team while optimising headcount to balance efficiency and throughput.
- Ensure safe, clean, and efficient operations, reducing waste and rework.
- Implement a preventative maintenance program to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
- Manage factory equipment servicing and critical third-party service schedules to prevent disruptions.
- Lead safety and production meetings to align teams with key priorities and upcoming projects.
Monitor and report on monthly targets, achievements, and KPIs, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
Supply Chain & Logistics Management
- Collaborate with the National Procurement, Warehouse & Logistics Manager to ensure raw material availability, optimised warehouse stocking, and timely dispatch coordination within budget.
- Review and plan capacity based on the manufacturing pipeline.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure consistent raw material quality, cost efficiency, and reliable supply chain performance.
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring stock accuracy through cyclic stock counts and full physical audits.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Champion Work Health & Safety (WHS) and Quality Assurance (QA) initiatives, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies
- Foster a proactive safety culture, identifying and addressing near misses, hazards, and incidents.
- Raise Non-conformance issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all products meet grade specifications and maintain high manufacturing standards.
Strategic Leadership & Team Development
- Lead by example with a hands-on, action-oriented approach, walking the floor to identify inefficiencies and drive operational solutions proactively.
- Build and develop a high-performing operations team, ensuring clear accountability and continuous skills development.
- Provide mentorship, training, and succession planning, fostering future leadership growth and maintaining a high-retention work environment.
Continuous Improvement & Business Growth
- Lead process automation, lean manufacturing, and operational excellence initiatives to enhance efficiency and scale operations.
- Own and report on quarterly performance reviews, ensuring operational objectives align with business goals.
- Maintain and update daily KPI records to track efficiency, output, and quality, ensuring operations stay on target.
- Advise senior management on capital improvements to enhance productivity and scalability.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience leading manufacturing and operations teams.
- A deep understanding of supply chain, procurement, and production planning.
- A commitment to WH&S and quality management, ensuring safe and compliant operations.
- A natural leadership style, with a proven ability to motivate, develop, and inspire teams.
- A track record of driving superior operational performance and delivering efficiency gains.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills across all levels of the business and with external stakeholders.
- Technical acumen for mechanical and electronic production processes is an advantage.
