About Mawarnkarra Health Service (MHS)

Mawarnkarra (MHS) is the largest primary health care provider providing direct services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in the Roebourne area. MHS provides the families of Roebourne with a fully functional and accredited Clinic that treats approximately 3,000 people per year.

The Position

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner is part of the Clinical Services Team of Mawarnkarra Health Service. The Service’s objective is to provide holistic, primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of the West Pilbara region. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner has key responsibilities in the provision of person-centered clinical care, preventative health, and health promotion. The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will provide culturally appropriate, evidence-based care and health promotion advice to the local community and others who use the service.

The Requirements

  • Safely and proficiently undertake a range of clinical assessments, tests and procedures as a member of a primary health care team, interpret clinical findings using a problem-based approach based on a working knowledge of organ systems and common diseases, determine an action plan, use written care protocols and liaise with senior health staff
  • Collect and record data from clients which assist in the diagnosis and management of common medical problems and medical emergencies
  • Organise, participate in, and evaluate health promotion activities for the local Aboriginal community
  • Liaise with Aboriginal agencies, health clinics, hospitals, welfare providers, and other staff members to ensure clients have access to information and are referred to relevant services and programs as required
  • Mentor and train other staff as required
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct
  • Participate in and contribute to the fulfilment of operational needs of the organisation as they arise
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all Mawarnkarra policies and procedures
  • Participate in maintaining a safe working environment
  • A demonstrated understanding of the issues and barriers that impact upon the health outcomes of Aboriginal people
  • Attend and participate in the professional development program and relevant external seminars and conferences, as approved

Other Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Anaphylaxis certificate
  • Relevant qualifications to be able to administer all immunisations
  • Experience in cold chain management
  • Current Western Australian drivers license
  • COVID-19 vaccinated
  • Consent to undergo a WA Working With Children Check and a National Police Clearance
  • Current CPR certificate
  • Able to pass regular and random drug and alcohol testing

Remuneration Benefits include:

  • Salary of $76,050 - $105,161 p/a pro rata
  • 11.5% Superannuation
  • Housing and District allowances (subject to eligibility)
