Applications are invited for the casual position of Electorate Support Officer (EOA) in the Office of Senator Tammy Tyrrell based in the Senator’s Electorate Office in Launceston, Tasmania.

Position Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is able to work in a close-knit team to support the Senator’s engagement with constituents in the Tasmanian electorate. As an electorate officer, you will attend to phone and email enquiries, meet with constituents and other visitors to the Electorate Office, liaise with Government departments and other organisations, draft correspondence, assist with grants newsletters and maintain electronic and hard copy records.
The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring constituents are supported through their contact with the electorate office – including working with constituents to navigate available supports and undertaking referrals where appropriate with government agencies and services.
- Managing constituent enquiries and preparing correspondence and communications.
- Maintaining case notes, files, and records (electronic and hard copy).
- Attending community events and travel throughout the Electorate, which may require working on weekends and/or public holidays.
- Assist with organising and sourcing opportunities for events that promote and endorse the Senator’s engagement.
- Maintaining a clean and safe workspace, contributing to a safe and respectful workplace culture, and abiding by work health and safety laws, policies, and procedures.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Highly organised and able to prioritise tasks.
- Strong community stakeholder engagement skills.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a small team to achieve results.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines with limited supervision.
- Excellent computing skills with experience using Microsoft Office and virtual applications.
- A keen interest in current affairs and an understanding of Australia’s systems of government.
- Tolerance, patience, and a sense of humour.
- A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.
- While not necessary, prior administrative experience and qualifications in social work, welfare, legal studies, or a similar area will be looked on favourably.
Additionally, applicants with the following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- A working knowledge of the practice and procedure of the Australian Senate.
- Experience in a political or community-based office.
Employment Conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
- Starting at 20 hours per week with flexible working arrangements and potential for additional hours during peak periods.
- A commencing salary between $71,808 and $76,022 (paid pro rata) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- As this is a casual position, salary includes 25% loading.
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
Points to note:
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
- Interstate and intrastate travel may be required to support the Senator’s engagement.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
