Cooinda Cottage Early Childhood Centre, part of non-profit North Belconnen Community Association Inc (NBCA), is on the lookout for an enthusiastic chef to provide wholesome meals that nourish the hearts and minds of our little ones. The hours for this role are 8:30am to 3:30pm on weekdays. An increased pay rate will be on offer after satisfactory completion of a six-month probation period.

Cooinda Cottage embeds First Nations perspectives across all areas, including nutrition, health and wellbeing. You'll be responsible for planning menus, ordering ingredients, and preparing & serving nutritious meals and snacks that showcase seasonal and Indigenous ingredients. Meals must meet the dietary requirements of young children, while also catering to their taste preferences.

You should possess a minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, a current Working with Vulnerable People registration (or be willing to obtain) and a Food Safety Supervisor certificate (or be willing to obtain). Previous experience cooking in an early education setting would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare balanced, age-appropriate meals for children, considering dietary restrictions and allergies.
• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, adhering to food safety regulations.
• Collaborate with educators to ensure the mealtime experience is enjoyable and educational.
• Monitor and manage food inventory, budget, and order supplies as needed.
