Pharmacist in Charge
Kimberley Pharmacy Services Pty Ltd
Posted 25 days ago
We are looking for a Pharmacist-in-Charge for our pharmacy in Derby Western Australia.
- We're looking for pharmacists with 5+ years experience.
- We do not require prior experience as a pharmacist-in-charge. If you're looking to take the next step in your career, this could be the job for you.
- Full-time Mon-Fri (with half-day Saturdays shared with other pharmacists).
- $60/hr (~$140,000 - $150,000/pa depending hours worked). Plus super.
- Start dates are negotiable but no later than April 2025.
- Free fully-furnished accommodation with all bills covered.
- Opportunity to work in Indigenous health in a beautiful part of the world.
More About the Role
In addition to normal pharmacist duties (e.g. dispensing, patient counselling) the role covers additional duties of any typical pharmacist-in-charge position:
- Oversee the dispensary
- Manage stock
- Ensure PBS claims are submitted
- Work with the retail manager on staff development and training
- Ensure all staff follow KPS policies and procedures
- Supervise pharmacy intern (nearing completion)
- Attend KPS meetings and contribute to discussions on how to improve our services
- Act as the point of contact for other healthcare providers in town
- Report all errors and near misses, or any breach of ethics using KPS processes
Although you will be newest member of the team you will not be alone. You will have the retail manager, several pharmacy assistants, a pharmacy intern (soon to finish) and second pharmacist (who does outreach work but can come into the pharmacy if required).
The pharmacy has recently upgraded the Internet, all the software, the computers and the phone system. Everything ‘just works’ so you can focus on doing your work instead of fighting with aging and temperamental equipment. And should something go wrong, KPS employs its own IT staff to fix things promptly.
What You’ll Enjoy
In addition to an attractive salary ($140,000-$150,000+super) , a range of benefits are also provided:
- Relocation allowance
- Five weeks annual leave plus flexible time-in-lieu arrangements
- Fully-furnished accommodation (Internet and all utilities - gas, water, electricity - are covered)
- Education and training allowance and support, including cultural safety training
The salary is based on an hourly rate of $60/hr. The pharmacy is open 8:30am-5:00pm weekdays but your salary will depend on how many Saturdays you work (pharmacy is open 8:30-12:30pm Saturdays).
Alongside the financial and other benefits we offer, this is an opportunity to advance and diversify your knowledge and experience, gaining unique pharmacy experience, including:
- Delivering culturally safe pharmacy care for Aboriginal patients, families and communities;
- Providing outreach and community-based services;
- Supporting remote clinics through tele-pharmacy;
- Clinical auditing and clinical reviews; and
- Collaborating with other healthcare providers in the region.
About You
You will have at least 5 years experienced working as a Pharmacist.
- We do not require previous pharmacist-in-charge experience. Our pharmacy operates very differently from most pharmacies in the city so that experience is not fully relevant. We also have software to do some of the things you'd normally need to yourself (e.g. stock ordering, S100 claiming). Most importantly, you will have the support of a ‘hands on’ pharmacy owner who will be working directly with you to ensure your success in the role.
- You need to have general (unrestricted) AHPRA registration
- An interest in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander healthcare.
- You will be very organised and a strong problem-solver.
- You will need to be a strong communicator and collaborator, so you can effectively build relationships with community members and healthcare providers in town. We are the only pharmacy in Derby.
- All of our pharmacists work within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, where they are usually the only pharmacist as the lead for a health service. To succeed you will need to be able to make confident and autonomous decisions regarding patient care.
- You will be experienced in all aspects of pharmacy, and be a qualified vaccinator.
About Derby
Derby has a population of approximately 3,500, about half are of Aboriginal descent.
It's a small town but it has all the amenities you need (two supermarkets - IGA and Woolworths, sports grounds, swimming pool, gym, pubs, two hardware stores, a hospital and GP clinic).
We have very fast Internet in the staff house (via Starlink).
Even though Derby is remote, it is not isolated.
- It's a two hour drive to Broome and our staff often drive down to Broome for the weekend, then drive back up to Derby early Monday morning to open the pharmacy by 830.
- There are flights (and even a bus service) three times per week between Broome and Derby.
- From Broome there are two flights daily to Perth, and during tourist season (Apr-Oct) there are direct flights to the East Coast and to Singapore. It's possible to get from Derby to Perth in a day year-round, and for most of the year you can get from Derby to Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane the same day.
