About the role
Join the vibrant team at The JCU General Store as a Chef/Cook with barista and customer service skills. This full-time position is located at the front of JCU and offers a rewarding opportunity to showcase your culinary talents while providing exceptional service to students and staff.

What you'll be doing

• Prepare a variety of high-quality menu items and snacks for the store
• Operate the La Marzocco espresso machine to serve specialty coffee and beverages
• Provide friendly and efficient customer service to students, staff and visitors
• Maintain a clean and organised service area
• Assist with menu planning, stock management and other food service operations
• Collaborate with the wider catering team to deliver a seamless dining experience

What we're looking for

• Relevant qualification in commercial cooking or catering (desired, not essential)
• Demonstrated experience as a chef or cook in a hospitality or food service environment
• Barista skills and experience in serving high-quality coffee and beverages
• Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills
• Ability to work well in a team and adapt to a fast-paced environment
• Good time management, organisation and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety regulations

About us

The JCU General Store and Cafe is owned and managed by The John Flynn College, a residential college located at JCU Townsville Campus

This is a permanent full time position working day shift Monday through Friday with public holidays off.
