The Department Work Health and Safety (WHS) Section provides functional support, coordination, advice and oversight on WHS strategy, procedure and processes, compliance, risk identification and mitigation, and assurance in support of the Department's evolving and continually maturing health and safety performance against operational and corporate objectives.

Description

Reporting to the Superintendent WHS Coordination, the role will be occupied by an experienced WHS professional with exceptional time management, workload prioritisation, and strong communication skills. This role will be suited to someone who enjoys working as part of a small team and providing advice or support to others.

The occupant will possess the ability to work in a dynamic, high tempo environment, possess a high degree of sound judgement, and the ability to communicate and provide advice across a wide range of stakeholders. The applicant will need to be able to lead a small team in support of the broader section.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Interpreting and applying work knowledge to a range of legislation, guidelines and instructions, policy and procedures, and providing detailed technical and professional advice.
• Supporting Department workers, managers and supervisors and executives in responding to WHS obligations through building and maintaining professional relationships
• Contribute to the development, maintenance and implementation of WHS policies, procedures, processes and projects.
• Provide subject matter advice to the Department on WHS risks and priorities, developing and reporting on critical risks and controls across operational domains.
• Lead and inspire effective teams, provide direction and guidance, addressing staffing matters early and managing performance issues.
• Promoting and supporting a culture of achievement, excellence and integrity.

Profile

We are seeking an experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) professional with a demonstrated ability to manage complex WHS responsibilities in a high-tempo environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent time management, workload prioritisation, and strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a small, dynamic team.

The successful candidate will have:

• In-depth knowledge of WHS legislation, guidelines, and procedures.
• Strong ability to develop and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and processes.
• The capability to identify, assess, and manage WHS risks while driving safety culture improvements.
• A commitment to excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement in WHS practices.

Security Clearance:

• NV1 security clearance is preferred, but candidates with a Baseline security clearance will also be considered.
