About us:

Gladstone Hospital is a 70-bed hospital and offers a range of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services including Emergency, General Medicine and Surgery, basic Orthopaedic, Clinical Investigation, Obstetrics, Maternity, Gynaecology, High Dependency and Coronary Care, Palliative care, Medical Imaging, Pathology, and Paediatrics. Additional services include Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service, Oral Health, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Speech Pathology, and outreach/community-based facilities, as well as a Primary Health Care Centre located at Boyne Valley. Gladstone Hospital has approximately 282 full-time equivalent staff delivering services across Acute, Community and Primary care.

About the role:

The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) will provide safe, high quality anaesthetic clinical services to Gladstone Hospital with a commitment to patient safety and continuous service improvement and assists in the professional development and support of medical students and clinicians as required.

Provision of the full range of anaesthetic services including general and regional anaesthesia, obstetric services including epidural/spinal anaesthesia.

The provision of clinical services for Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) is provided as one service, multiple sites. In order to meet service needs the Senior Medical Officer may be required to provide clinical services at any facility within the CQHHS, in line with the clinical services capability of that facility.

About you:
  • Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA) / Diploma of Rural Generalist Anaesthesia.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and/or
  • FARGP or FRACGP-RG or
  • Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or
  • Evidence of acceptance as an Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) trainee.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • While not mandatory, the following qualifications would be well regarded:
  • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program with the appropriate bodies.
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $458,574 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $182,106 - $187,801 p.a. (L13-L14)
  • A salary rate between $182,106 - $210,332 p.a. (L13-L18)
  • A salary rate between $210,332 - $251,527 p.a. (L18-L25)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
